IRONWOOD

For Sellers

We buy 48x40 4way GMA pallets only.

Pallets consist of 2 main components of construction: 3 48" runners and 40" deckboards-typically 8 3" boards and 4 5" end boards, though this number can vary depending on manufacturing method.   They are then categorized as #1 and #2 based on the condition of the three 48" runners.  If there are breaks, cracks, or repairs that are needed or have been previously done to one or more runner, the pallet is graded as a #2...if the runners are not damaged or repaired, it is a #1.

We then purchase based off of the number of deck boards that need replaced.

#1 ready-0 to 1 deckboards needing replaced.

#1 repair-2 to 4 deckboards needing replaced.

#1 low-5 or more deckboards that need replaced

#2 ready-0-1 deckboards needing replaced

#2 repair-2-4 deckboards needing replaced

#2 low-5 or more deckboards needing replaced or in such a condition otherwise that extensive repairs are needed.

Remember that for each pallet sold to us, we have to repair the pallet to be in satisfactory condition for a buyer...balancing customer needs with repair time and lumber costs.  Because this is a new subject for many, we are glad to show and educate you on pallet grading and repair determination.

There are reasons we may not be able to pay for pallets, including excessive weathering that structurally impacts the pallet, dirty pallets, not economically viable to repair or end of life pallets.  We understand there may be a few in a load, but lots where the majority meet these criteria will be assessed a fee for disposal.

For Buyers

When determining the correct pallet for your needs, there are several factors to consider.

What size do I need for my product?

What is the weight of my product?

Is this a one time use or recurring use pallet?

Does the client downstream have requirements?

What is the value of my product in case something happened in handling?

We have several grades available to meet most any shipping need.

#1 premium-A like new pallet with very minor use.  Good for heavier loads, food products, supply chain requirements, etc.

#1-The pallet has some previous use with normal decking boards and has no plug repairs to the 3 runners.  This pallet has slightly better resistance to forklift handling damage due to the lack of repaired runners.

#2-Pallets have had one or more repairs to the runners.  These pallets typically have had minor to mdoerate usage previously but have been repaired to function normally.

#2 Lo-These are pallets that have had extensive use and/or repairs.  They are a bit "ugly" but will hold materials and are the lowest priced pallets we offer.
